Marquez Brothers Dominate as MotoGP™ Storms into Texas

Friday, 28 March 2025

The Marquez carnival is hitting full stride

Marc Marquez arrives at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) as championship leader with a flawless start to 2025, while brother Alex Marquez follows in hot pursuit as MotoGP™ touches down in Austin for the Grand Prix of the Americas.

The Marquez carnival is hitting full stride as the championship heads to Texas for round three, with the brothers establishing a formidable presence at the top of the standings. Marc leads the way after masterclass performances in the opening rounds, while Alex enjoys his best-ever start to a season, having led more Sunday race laps than his illustrious brother so far in 2025.

COTA has long been Marc's personal playground – the #93 has dominated American soil with victories in every Grand Prix from 2013 to 2018 and again in 2021. Despite crashing out of the lead in 2024, Marquez arrives in Austin seeking redemption in Ducati red and looking to extend his championship advantage. His record at this circuit remains one of the most imposing in MotoGP™, presenting rivals with the daunting challenge of beating the eight-time world champion on his favorite hunting ground.

While the Marquez brothers command the spotlight, several COTA specialists are eager to disrupt their dominance. Francesco Bagnaia, Marc's factory Ducati teammate, claimed pole position and Sprint victory here in 2023. After securing four consecutive podiums to start the 2025 campaign, Bagnaia is hungry to convert his consistency into a first win of the season – particularly on his teammate's territory.

Maverick Viñales, now with Red Bull KTM Tech3, returns as the defending race winner after his triumph with Aprilia last year. His switch to KTM creates an intriguing storyline, especially as Marco Bezzecchi takes over his former Aprilia machinery. Meanwhile, Viñales' Tech3 teammate Enea Bastianini arrives as the 2022 COTA victor, adding another potential spoiler to the Marquez party.

Alex Rins represents another serious contender, having claimed COTA victories in both 2019 and 2023. The Monster Energy Yamaha rider showed promising pace in Argentina two weeks ago and could leverage his affinity for the Texas track to deliver Yamaha's first podium of 2025.

Rising star Pedro Acosta returns to the track where he announced himself to the MotoGP™ world last year. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rookie lit up COTA in just his second premier class weekend in 2024 and will be determined to recapture that magic as a sophomore in 2025.

The midfield battle promises equally compelling narratives. Johann Zarco carries momentum after an impressive Argentina showing, with the 34-year-old Frenchman bringing his CASTROL Honda LCR to a circuit where the team celebrated victory two years ago with Rins. His compatriot Fabio Quartararo achieved his best qualifying result of the year at Termas de Río Hondo but couldn't convert it on Sunday, while Jack Miller looks to bounce back after a challenging weekend in Argentina.

Prima Pramac Yamaha will field test rider Augusto Fernandez as a replacement for the recovering Miguel Oliveira, adding another dynamic to the midfield contest.

The Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team continues to impress, with at least one of their riders securing a top-five finish in each Sprint or Grand Prix so far this season. Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Di Giannantonio arrive as dark horses, particularly Morbidelli, who returned to the Grand Prix podium in Argentina after a nearly 1500-day drought.

Honda's resurgence is embodied by Joan Mir, who secured his first top-ten finish in a year last time out. His teammate Luca Marini hopes to recapture the form that delivered his maiden premier class podium at this very circuit two years ago.

Among the rookies, Ai Ogura seeks a return to the top six after a challenging Argentina round followed his impressive Thailand debut. Despite his disqualification from the last race for running non-homologated software, the Japanese rookie has consistently shown top-ten pace on the Trackhouse Racing Aprilia.

Fellow rookie Fermin Aldeguer draws confidence from his Moto2™ podium at COTA last year as he chases his first MotoGP™ points with Gresini Racing, while Somkiat Chantra continues his quest to open his premier class account with IDEMITSU Honda LCR.

Austin may be known as the Live Music Capital of the World, but horsepower takes center stage once MotoGP™ rolls into town. Will the Marquez brothers continue their symphonic dominance, or will a new headline act steal the spotlight in Sunday's main event? The Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas promises high-octane drama at every turn as the 2025 season kicks into high gear.
