Miller battles through tricky conditions at Aragon

Monday, 2 September 2024

The Australian rider's performance demonstrated his ability to adapt.

Jack Miller showcased his skill in challenging conditions at the Gran Premio de Aragonto to secure a top 10 (pre-penalty) finish for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing. The Australian rider's performance demonstrated his ability to adapt to varying grip levels as the MotorLand circuit dried throughout the day.

The Aragon Grand Prix kicked off under threatening skies, with thunderstorms creating a wet and cool climate for the start of race day in Spain. However, as the sun emerged and began to dry the asphalt, riders faced the challenge of constantly changing track conditions.

Miller, known for his sensitive feel on the bike, put his experience to good use as he carefully picked his way through the field. His ability to read the track and adjust his riding style accordingly proved crucial in the tricky conditions.

"It was a bit of a lottery out there today," Miller commented after the race. "The track was changing lap by lap, and you never quite knew what grip you'd have from one corner to the next. But we managed to stay upright and bring it home in the points, so I'm pretty happy with that."

The Aussie's performance was particularly impressive given the challenges faced during qualifying and the Sprint race on Saturday. Miller had only managed to secure 13th place in the Sprint, but his race craft and tyre management skills came to the fore in Sunday's main event.

While Miller's teammate Brad Binder finished an impressive 4th, the Australian's top 10 result highlighted the overall strength of the KTM package in diverse conditions. However, it's worth noting that Miller's final classification was later adjusted to 15th due to a tyre pressure infringement, a reminder of the strict technical regulations in MotoGP™.

Looking ahead to the next round at Misano, Miller remains optimistic about his chances. "We've made some good progress with the bike, and I'm feeling more comfortable every time I ride it. Misano's a track I enjoy, so I'm looking forward to getting back out there and pushing for a strong result."
